Dr. Marilyn Smith oversees all operational details of the JD Andrews Foundation.
Her storied career as a champion for early childhood educators began in the classroom as a preschool teacher and then as collegiate instructor of child development.
From 1973-1999, she served as the Executive Director of the National Association for the Education of Young Children and grew its membership from 17,000 to 103,000. During her tenure there, she led the launch of NAEYC’s preschool accreditation system, which remains the standard of quality for early childhood programs. She also developed numerous position statements that continue to guide best practices in the field of early childhood education.
