The goal of the HHC curriculum is to support early childhood teachers in gaining skills and confidence to help children develop lifelong healthy habits. Completion of the required curriculum components will familiarize teachers with concepts related to nutrition education, food service, movement and physical activity, media and screen time, and family engagement.

The table we present below indicates how these concepts align with preschool-related quality standards established by leading national and professional organizations. The primary standards identified in this alignment include Caring for Our Children: National Health and Safety Performance Standards, 3rd ed. (CFOC3) Standards, the Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS), and the Child Development Associate (CDA) Competency Standards. Additional standards and guidelines identified include Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE) America – Active Start, YMCA Healthy Eating and Physical Activity (HEPA) standards, USDA Choose My Plate, Let’s Move Child Care, and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Policy Statement Media and Young Minds.
